Customs Rules to Be Displayed on Signboards at Mumbai Airporty

Very soon all international passengers will get to see the customs rules on attractive signboards at the Mumbai airport. The Customs Department has arrived at this decision because there has been a sharp increase in the number of people who have tried to evade customs duty. Hence, the department has now decided to give passengers and appraisal about the customs rules, limits on goods & currency that may be imported or carried in the passenger’s luggage. These signboards would be passenger friendly and the installation is likely to be completed in a couple of weeks. as of now, the authorities are looking at ways in which the other countries inform their international passengers about the customs rules and regulations.

As per the recent report in the Times of India, the passenger’s sometimes don’t have the intention of smuggling goods or other valuables into a foreign country, but end up doing so. Passengers sometimes don’t declare the goods as they wish to avoid the customs duty on them. However, if the rules are explained to the passengers in a clear and concise manner, they will certainly pay up the customs duty, states a customs official. If the signboards don’t draw the attention of the passengers, then it is pointless to have one. So, it is important to ensure that the language used is passenger-friendly in order to ensure that the message is not lost, stated Saleem, Commissioner of Customs at Mumbai airport.
